Laser Hair Removal

Ark-La-Tex Dermatology has the newest and most innovative multi-wave systems in the industry for permanent hair reduction.

We offer laser hair removal at both our Shreveport and Bossier Locations.

In Bossier City we have the Cutera HR and Lumenis Splendor X. In Shreveport we have the Cutera Xeo

The Splendor X operates on two different wavelengths, 755nm and 1064nm. Incorporating these two wavelengths together gives us the ability to treat all skin types, fine to coarse hair that is brown or black.

The Excel HR operates on two different wavelengths, 755nm and 1064nm. These can be used to treat all skin types, fine to coarse hair that is brown or black.

The Xeo ProWave emits infrared light above 770nm and is suitable for skin types 1-4. The Xeo also incorporates the cool glide1064 wavelength to treat darker skin types.

Laser hair removal is not effective on white or grey hair because the laser does not have any pigment (color) to target.

What body area can I get treated?

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Chest
  • Arms
  • Back
  • Legs
  • Bikini

Typically, you will need six to eight treatments. It can vary from patient to patient depending on their skin type and the density of their hair.

What are the hair removal treatments like?

A cool ultrasound gel is applied to the area prior to treatment. The handpiece has sapphire contact cooling which allows for comfort and safety before, during, and after every pulse.

What should I expect after treatments?

Immediately after the treatment, you can expect a mild sunburn-like sensation, possibly accompanied by some minor swelling. This usually lasts 2-24 hours and can be soothed with cool gel packs.

The treated hair will continue to appear for 7-30 days following days following treatment. This is not new hair growth, but the treated hairs being expelled from the follicle.

At any given time, some of your hair is not in a phase of active growth. Therefore you will need more than one treatment to affect the growth of all your unwanted hair.

What to avoid prior to laser hair removal:

For two-three weeks before your first treatment and throughout the sessions, avoid

  • Waxing
  • Plucking
  • Depilatory Creams
  • Tanning Creams
  • Tanning Beds or excess sun exposure

We need you to shave as this allows the hair to remain in the follicle for us to target.

How long do you wait between treatments?

Hair grows at different stages and each area will need to be treated at different intervals.

  • Back/Chest: 8-10 weeks
  • Face: 6-8 weeks
  • Bikini: 8-10 weeks
  • Legs/Back: 10-12 weeks

Doing treatments closer together does not increase success. It is better to space treatments farther apart than closer together. Please adhere to the instructions of your physician or the laser clinician.

*Hormones, diseases, medication can affect treatment outcome

How many sessions are needed for permanent hair reduction?

Generally you will need six to eight sessions depending on the area being treated. Some patients are resistant and require a few additional sessions. Most have excellent results and only require a touch-up once a year.

What do you do prior to your appointment?

  • Shave the area prior to your appointment.
  • Remove all make-up
